BSB Graduate Jessica accepted at New York University

Congratulations to BSB 2020 Graduate Jessica who will be studying Economics at New York University. She has also been accepted at Yale-NUS College, University of Edinburgh, King's College London, Durham University and University of Warwick.

Jessica has been studying at BSB for 5 years. She graduated with an amazing IB Diploma point score of 43 (out of a maximum of 45). For her IGCSE, she achieved the highest grades for her Year group with 1 A**, 8 A* and 1 A. Please see a video about her learning journey at BSB!

1. Looking back at the years of studying at BSB, how would you to describe this experience?

I’ve been studying at BSB for 5 years. I would describe my experience at BSB as “different” – as I was transferred from a local Chinese school which had a totally different teaching style and environment. This is not only in terms of the curriculum, but the whole atmosphere here at BSB is much more open and freer which contributes to our well-rounded personal development.

2.How has studying at BSB helped you achieve academic success/ university acceptance/ personal development?

I think I have found the way of learning that suits me the most here – self-orientated but with close interaction with our teachers and being able to choose subjects within a board range but based on our personal interests. These have definitely contributed to my academic success. The progressive nature of the IB course that BSB offers  constantly requires me to walk out of my comfort zone which help me developed into the person I am now

3. Please give us 2 of your best memories from your time at BSB.

Being Head Girl at BSB has been a great learning experience.  Head Girl and Head Boy is like BSB Student Ambassadors. When we have special visitors at the school, we will bring them around to visit the campus. In addition, my responsibilities also include hosting some special school activities like the new IB Hub Opening Ceremony etc.

Another great memory is attending the BSB Prom and the Vienna Ball Beijing organised by the Austrian Embassy.

4. Who is your favourite teacher?

My favourite teacher was Mr Brigstock and it was because his lessons and himself have inspired me to study Economics in the future. His lessons were always well-prepared, fun and informative, literally every class there would be so many things to take away. Apart from preparing us for exams really effectively, he really taught us how to think like an economist.

5.What do you think is special about BSB?

We have a relatively small community at BSB. This means we interact much more closely with our peers and teachers, which gives me lots of warmth.
