Penang Sports Tour

On 29th November to 1st December, BSKL travelled to Penang with their largest tour squad ever, consisting of 75 students and 8 members of staff. The purpose of this trip was for students to have fun, compete and have the opportunity for learning outside of the classroom.

Penang Sports Tour

DAY 1: Travel

On Thursday the squad departed for sunny Penang. After a hearty meal at the hotel, it was off to bed for the excited cohort, most of whom were up before the wake-up call (the PE staff were obviously thrilled by this enthusiasm!)

DAY 2: Athletics & Swimming

The Penang tour was something slightly different; one with no scores and no medals. The focus was purely on fun and teamwork.

On Friday the students arrived at the Penang sports club to participate in the athletics and swimming events. There were some amazing performances, including the thrilling race between Kate and Eileen. Other highlights included an amazing tactical 800m run by Nikita, a fantastic high jump from Caleb and a dominant 600m performance from Ella.

DAY 3: Football & Tee-Ball

After a considerably more restful evening, it was up bright and early to participate in the Football and Tee-Ball.

There were some brilliant games on both the diamonds and pitches. BSKL won almost every game (OK, so we were keeping one eye on the results) but the best thing about the day was the way the children chose their own teams, formations and tactics with only minimal support form the PE staff.

The students worked collaboratively to make sure everyone had the chance to play and rotating their positions. It was great to see them show such independence and maturity. As ever, the sportsmanship and respect shown to their opponents was first rate.

A huge well done to all of the team for their efforts and endless enthusiasm on the trip. A huge thank you to parents for their support and a special thanks to parents who helped organise supporters t-shirts, food and beverages at events. Thank you also to staff for giving up their time to care and coach the children. We look forward to the next trip!
