Are your family still using single-use plastic bags? Are your family still buying fruit and vegetables which are pre-packed in single-use plastic containers?
Well here at BSKL, we are constantly trying to find solutions to issues which we recognise contribute to the global issues which will greatly impact our children in the future. For example last term we worked with Sodexo to eliminate the use of single-use plastic bowls and spoons for the serving of ice cream, remove plastic straws from the Vive Cafe counters and source alternative containers and packaging for snacks.
The Early Year’s morning snacks are no longer wrapped in cling film but stored and served from reusable plastic containers. Thank you Sodexo for listening to us and for working with us to make a change.
Time to Think - Time to Change!
Our Early Year’s families have been asked to make a family pledge to 'Make a Change' towards living a more sustainable lifestyle. For example, your family may pledge to stop using single use plastic shopping bags and use reusable bags or stop buying plastic straws and toothbrushes but use sustainable bamboo products. The children have been asked to ensure that everyone in their family agrees to the pledge and knows how the family are going to achieve it. Each child is invited to think of a creative way to display their family pledge on our EYFS ‘Tree of Change’, with each family either signing their pledge or adding a family photo. For example the pledge could be displayed by tying a plastic shopping bag to a reusable shopping bag to show old to new household habits. The children will then bring their family ‘Make A Change’ pledge in to school to add it to our ‘Tree of Change’.
Best wishes to all our EYFS families for a health and happy 2019 - the year your family can Make a Change!
