Year 10 creative artwork

Last term Year 10 explored Cubism and its potential to free composition from traditional canons. They studied the work of George Braque, understanding how to create dense textures, vibrant tones and fragmented compositions.

The students then applied their knowledge to create cubist self portraits. There are many challenges; to mix the right colours and create interesting textures, to keep the overall work balanced and harmonious, and to convey a particular mood or emotion.

Below is some of their preparatory work and beginning stages of their final paintings.
