Interviews - Primary students interviewed students running for Student Council and our guest Kathryn Andersen, who visited DCIS for three days as part of The Juilliard – Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme. Ms Andersen is a performing violinist and Music Curriculum Specialist with Juilliard. The students wrote, recorded and edited the script themselves and uploaded Red Dot Radio’s first public broadcast to soundcloud. You can listen to this broadcast at https://soundcloud.com/reddotradio-608441463/kathryn-andersen-interview-261015

The students have become the teachers – The Radio Team has been very busy running training sessions at lunchtime and more and more students are becoming Radio Leaders. On Fridays the students can even be found training the teachers!

Curriculum focus - Classes are enjoying using their radio station to enhance their learning. Year 8 students visited Red Dot Radio in their History lesson to record a radio play of a council meeting in the Industrial Revolution. Students had to assume the perspective of a given character and debate about the expansion of the railway network. The plays were recorded and turned into QR codes for students and their parents to listen to at home. Also, in English, Year 9 students enjoyed scripting and recording ‘spooky plays’.

Recordings will be added to our soundcloud account so check it out for updates soon.

Previous Red Dot Radio News:

October 2015 - Red Dot Radio is back and better than ever. This term we moved into our amazing new glass panelled studio beside the cafeteria where we can enjoy broadcasting from the hub of the school. Our team of Radio Student Leaders continue to amaze with their skill and creativity. This term they have made their own Radio Training Guide Video and are busy training up their peers and new teachers so that every class can access and enjoy the benefits of the radio.  It looks like we also have a few budding broadcasters as the Radio Leaders can independently write, record and broadcast their own shows, complete with professional introductions, jingles, sound effects and presenter links. We can't wait for you to hear our recordings soon.
