Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,
This past week we have had two fantastic new opportunities at DCIS. The Year 6 students have spent the week in Thailand taking part in a number of exciting activities. We have also had a party of students attending the Global Campus Worldwide Expedition in Les Martinets in Switzerland where they climbed the Swiss Alps in showshoes. Both trips have been highly successful and the students will have had life changing and eternally memorable experiences. Next week our Year 5 students will be involved with the inaugural overseas and overnight trip to Loola Resort in Bintan. The students are very excited about this. My thanks go to all the students for their participation and exemplary behaviour and to the teachers for their commitment to ensuring that the trips have run very smoothly. The overwhelming support from parents has also been highly appreciated.
Next year, subject to numbers, we will be running our first trip to the Global Campus Social Citizenship Expedition in Tanzania. We are currently looking at our other overseas expeditions for next year and will let you know further details.
Next week we will have our annual sports week with high levels of participation across the year groups. Our Year 10 ASDAN group has played a major role in the organisation of these important few days. We are also using it as an opportunity to run a statistics project with our Key Stage 3 mathematicians.
On Friday 10th June the Year 10 Global Citizenship group will be running an Earth Day event. All students will be encouraged to wear green and there will be a number of related activities beginning with our morning assembly. Following on from this, the Year 6 students will be in the Secondary School for 3 days next week taking part in a range of activities with secondary staff, based around the theme of the environment and sustainability.
Finally, our IGCSE students are nearing the end of their external examinations and our Year 9 students have chosen options for next year. It is pleasing to see the increased number of students in the secondary school moving forward and we are excited about the future.
