Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

After six weeks of term I am very pleased with the start we have made to the 2016-17 academic year. Following on from the IGCSE success it has been wonderful to see children and students settling into their new classes so well. Our ECAs have officially begun, so we wish to thank all teachers and staff members for helping our students in developing new skills and interests.

All groups of parents have had introductory coffee mornings this month and it has been my privilege to meet so many of you and share our excitement for the years ahead.  It was also great to see so many parents at our ‘Trip Information’ evenings as we were presented with some truly exceptional opportunities coming up this year for students. I know they will enjoy and learn a great deal in their time away from school and their families.

Our external validation processes are going well. Our application to FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) has been accepted and we will shortly welcome two FOBISIA Heads to the school to finalise that process. We welcomed Graham Ranger, the Director of School Services and Accreditation for CIS (Council of International Schools) to DCIS two weeks ago and that application is also progressing well. We are also reaching the final stages of our application to offer the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Programme. We have the first visit from our IB consultant in the week before half term and plan to schedule the final visit early in Term 2.

I have also been pleased to see continued success on the Sports Field. The PE team have run a large number of fixtures through the last five weeks against a wide variety of local schools with some extremely positive results.

On a practical and safety note, may I remind parents that we kindly ask all motorists to turn left (and not right) as they exit the school. We do not have control over the main road, of course, so all we can do is seek your cooperation; we are instructing our school buses to do the same as this really helps traffic flow out of the site in the morning and evening.

We have a series of parent workshops coming up between now and half term and I look forward to seeing you at those. Please see our calendar of events for further details.

Best wishes,

Mr. Christopher Short
DCIS Principal
