Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,
It has been a fantastic term in the Secondary School. We have been delighted to welcome our new Year 7 students and our new IB cohort to the school and are thrilled with the way that both groups have begun their studies at DCIS. Our new teachers have settled well and everyone is continuing to work hard to ensure we are offering a curriculum of the utmost quality from Year 7 to Year 13. It has been an exciting 3 months, full of high quality learning and a plethora of extra-curricular activities.
In the classroom, students have demonstrated exceptional effort and attitude in approaching their studies. I have had the pleasure of attending lessons in all subjects this term and have been impressed by the focus and diligence of our students, the quality of the work that the students produce and the expert teaching that is taking place every day in the Secondary School. Students in Year 11 are now preparing for their Mock Examinations which will take place 8-12 January.
There have been a number of exciting trips for the students to get involved in. Students have had the chance to visit the offices at Microsoft, see the sights at Gardens by the Bay, walk the Southern Ridges and view microscopes at Nanyang University. We have also had students represent the school at a Science Olympiad, the Remembrance Service at Kranji and at the Edexcel Pearson Medallion Ceremony. We are now looking forward to our overseas expeditions to Laos, Malaysia and Switzerland in the new year.
It has been an exceptional term in regards to sporting achievements. In the Secondary School, we have entered an amazing 15 teams this term! We have been delighted to begin B team football team for the first time. During the cross country season we entered over 40 boys and girls at all ages, competing well at Bedok reservoir with Indira from Year 11 maintaining her position as ACSIS U16 Cross-country champion. Netball has seen some pleasing wins for the U14 girls team, as well as the increased competition in the swim meets that have been held. As I write, our U12 and U16 boys and girls basketball teams are still competing and all four teams have made superb starts to their seasons. FOBISIA training for the U13 games is well underway and we are getting more excited each week for our competition in Phuket in February.
On Monday, I was delighted to launch our ECA programme for the Secondary students. We have considered carefully the parent and student feedback that we have received and have developed a broad programme to appeal to all students. We have some ECAs where students can challenge themselves, such as Model United Nations, Global Challenge and World Scholar’s Cup. We have some ECAs where students can learn new skills, such as sewing, Spanish, word processing and etching. We have some ECAs where students can learn about new things, such as classics and STEAM club. We have some ECAs where students can take a break and relax, such as mindfulness club and mind games. This is on top of our rich programme of sports so the students really do have a brilliant choice! Parents will be able to sign up for ECAs from January 3rd.
Finally, I would like to wish you all a restful holiday. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate this festival and Happy New Year to all. I look forward to welcoming you back in January for another exciting term.
