The learning objective for the first term was for the students to build upon their confidence to introduce themselves through speech in Mandarin. Our teachers tailored the Show and Tell activity so that the students were provided with an opportunity to share their work with their peers, while developing their proficiency in Mandarin. More importantly, the social interaction under the close guidance of the teachers enabled the students to be more confident in Mandarin speaking at a pace most comfortable to them.
Initially, we observed that the majority of the students were quiet and shy during the Show and Tell activity. However, after a few of the students started volunteering to go first and walked around to share the project work on their hand, the rest were able to catch on quickly. It brought the teaching team great pride to see the students interacting with each other in Mandarin. We could see that the students were laughing and enjoying the session after overcoming the initial apprehension of introducing themselves in another language.
Overall our Year 3 students have done very well. They deserve a pat on the back for the progress they have made this term. Our teaching team are confident they are ready for further challenges in the term to come!
