Through the International Primary Curriculum we deliver our curriculum in a thematic way, with topics running over several weeks. The first topic for our Year 1 students has been the Magic Toymaker. The subjects Year 1 have been focusing on during this unit of work are history, science, technology and PE. In history the children have learned about toys and games from the past, how you can tell if a toy is old or new and how we can learn about the past in different ways.

In science the children looked at the materials the toys were made out of and the properties of different materials. Which can be bent, squashed, twisted and stretched? And which floats and would make a good bath toy?

To finish off the unit the children got to design and make their own sock puppets. We saw some amazing and very creative designs!
