Year 4 Mini Shops Open for Business

On the last day of Term 2, to apply the skills they have learned in Maths to real life situations, the children in Year 4 carried out a mini shops activity.

Working in small groups, they children decided and planned what they would sell in their shop. This ranged from stationery to baked goods, homemade products and books. They put together a pricing strategy of their products which included special offers and discounts if more than one item was bought.

There was great excitement during the activity and the children soon realised that they would have to adjust their prices to make their product more enticing to buy. The children in Year 4 showed fantastic bargaining techniques and great practical application of addition, subtraction and using money.

Approximately $735 was collected at the end of the activity and this was donated to Riding for the Disabled Association, Singapore. Thank you to all the parents involved in baking products and sourcing items to donate to the shop activity.
