Parent Update - 30 September 2016

  • Staff listening and learning at our Staff Inset Day.

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

My main focus this week has been lesson observations.  I have enjoyed visiting different classes, seeing how children are progressing and feeding back to staff.  I have learnt about Pascal’s triangle in Maths, studied poetry, analysed a play, was reminded about my multiplication tables and how to use figurative language.  It has been great fun working with the children and the teachers, enjoying learning alongside them.

Members of the Senior Leadership Team also had the opportunity to visit the site of our new campus before the major building work starts.  It gave us a chance to imagine what it would look like so we can influence the design from an informed viewpoint.  In the meantime, the architects and the contractors visited our school so that we can ensure that both schools look and feel the same.  It is very exciting.

I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.

Mr Cooklin

Progress! This week the engineers were able to narrow down the cause of the leak. The water level has remained the same after it reached just below the water inlets, which means it must be coming from above or from them. The engineers will now focus their investigation on the whole pool tank above the inlets. If there is no further leakage we can start the repair work. More updates to come …

Today it was the turn of our teachers to be learners. The teachers had a whole day of professional learning delivered by two guest speakers from around the World. The first was a gentleman named Andrew Jeffery, a Maths specialist who spoke to the teachers about teaching mastery techniques in Maths. The second was a lady called Indu Bedi, who spoke to the teachers about language teaching and teaching children who have English as a second language. Both sessions were excellent and our teachers have come out buzzing, full of ideas to implement into their lessons in the future.
