Educational Excellence for All Abilities

One of the most asked question by prospective parents on school tours I am asked is “What makes NAIS Manila's  Secondary School unique?”.

While there are a wealth of answers I could give ranging from our collaborations with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and our incredible STEAM Programme, to the brilliant  Juilliard Performing Arts Curriculum, our collaboration with UNICEF and the Global Challenge, to the students' ability to engage with the truly world-leading Global Campus platform, these are things that make Nord Anglia schools generally so special. However what really sets the Nord Anglia Manila Secondary School apart, what makes it so special and truly unique, is its approach to inclusivity.

Our mission is to deliver an inclusive school experience while simultaneously pursuing academic excellence.

Ensuring all children are able to make the social, emotional and academic progress they are capable of and deserve is at the heart of what we do.

Inclusivity is about bringing students of all ages, of all abilities and all backgrounds together and fostering interaction and collaboration between them by providing opportunities and experiences in which they learn and grow together. For a school to be truly inclusive it must move beyond tokenistic gestures and programmes that see students separated into groups based on ability and whose only connection is the uniform they wear.

Our inclusive approach here at NAIS Manila is rooted in the belief that we all can learn from one another and regardless of the challenges we individually face or our starting point in life, we each have things we can bring to the table when it comes to solving problems, debating new ideas and collaborating together.

Inclusivity is the cornerstone of our school and begins with our House System. All students are members of one of four Houses (Normans, Romans, Saxons and Vikings) and each week students work with their House members for several hours. Our school day is bookended with House Time of 15 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the afternoon. Students from Years 7-12 work together during these times discussing the issues of the day, competing in inter-house competitions, collaborating on MIT STEAM projects and UNICEF challenges, and developing their approach to learning .

House Times are incredible to witness and consistently rate as the highlight of the NAIS Manila School Experience according to student engagement surveys and feedback. To see students of all abilities and ages working together, supporting one another and learning from one another is truly heartwarming. What’s even more special is the levels of progress our students make as a consequence of this unique experience.

Inclusivity is not just about bringing students together, it is also about embracing what makes each student unique and understanding that all of us are individuals. As a result though students may have similar destinations and outcomes from their time at school, their journeys will not all be the same.

Our four Learning Pathways provide secondary students with the opportunity to undertake their learning journey in ways that are right for them. The pathways are flexible, allowing for students to move between them at appropriate times of their schooling and are designed to provide maximum interaction for students on differing pathways while supporting all pupils with their different abilities, passions and skills.

Sec School Pathways

One element of NAIS Manila’s Inclusion Programme of which we are exceptionally proud of is that we are the only school in the Philippines to offer the ASDAN Programme (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) for which we are also the only ASDAN Registered Centre in the Philippines.

ASDAN is a British Education Awarding Organization that offers engaging and exciting courses that empowers students through personalised learning and choice. Through ASDAN, NAIS Manila offers a diverse range of accredited curriculum programmes for all abilities that help develop and improve:

  • Academic skills
  • Independence and life skills
  • Personal and organisational skills
  • Work related skills

Students on our Coron and Davao pathways undertake ASDAN courses in concert with our core curriculum to expand their skill-set and provide them with foundation knowledge for success in their future studies.

The flexibility of our pathways and the way in which they are structured to foster interaction and collaboration amongst all students of all abilities results in happier students who are supported, but also challenged, as they may make the progress, socially, emotionally and academically, that is right for them.
