Primary Term 2 Half Term Update

Although I find myself saying it every year, time really does fly after Christmas at NAIS Manila! It is hard to believe that we are almost at Half-Term.  Virtual Schooling continues to go from strength to strength and I have picked out some of the highlights from the past six weeks.

  • Attendance continues to be extremely high in Primary. We have had over 92% attendance in VSE every week this half-term! This goes to show just how engaging our Virtual Schooling lessons are at NAIS Manila!
  • Our Student Council has recently been formed (Y2 to Y6) and we are all looking forward to seeing the Student Parliament provide opportunities for student voice over the coming months.
  • Our Virtual Talent Show attracted a wide range of acts with children from every class taking part. The ‘public’ voting starts this week, and it will be very tough to decide on a winner – luckily, that is not something I have to do!
  • Our first Virtual Chinese New Year Celebration was a fantastic opportunity for the children to show off their learning. I am extremely grateful to both Juan and Lydia for putting the celebration together. I know that they have spent a great deal of time on this and it was great to read the positive comments from parents.

I would like to congratulate everyone who applied for the Student Council or entered the Virtual Talent Show. Whilst only one person can ‘win’, the process is often far more important than the outcome. By pushing yourselves out of your comfort zone and taking on new challenges, you will learn so much! Learning at NAIS Manila is not just restricted to certain subjects or lessons.

School Clubs

As well as attendance being very high during Virtual Schooling - our lunchtime clubs continue to be very popular. These clubs are a great chance for children to communicate and collaborate. My thanks to both Mr. Denham and Ms. de Luzuriaga who give up a chunk of their lunchtimes each week to ensure the children have the best possible experience!

Half-Term

With travel restrictions starting to ease (within the Philippines) I am sure that some families (and staff) will take the opportunity to get away and enjoy a well-deserved break.  However, you are spending the break, we have already shared some fantastic Global Campus resources for learning to continue over the holidays, these are only available in the Philippines to students at NAIS Manila.

Global Campus

Mr. Denham (alexander.denham@naismanila.edu.ph) has outlined some fantastic Global Campus activities for children to continue their learning over the holiday. We are currently ranked 1st globally (out of 69 schools) which is an unbelievable achievement. As I have said before, we may be a small school, but we certainly have a lot of quality in our ranks!

And Finally - Thank you!

The effort from our whole school community (parents, children, and staff) this half-term has once again been fantastic. Although it often goes without saying, it is still important to say it - Thank you! You have been brilliant!

I hope that however and wherever you spend your Half-Term, it is safe and rewarding and I look forward to welcoming you and your children back to VSE on Monday, 1st March.

Best wishes,
Chris
